Stephen Powers Joins the Platinum Club!

Stephen Powers Joins the Platinum Club!
“When I first heard about Vemma I was working at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store. I didn’t know what I was going to do with my life to have a positive impact on the world. When my little brother Matt Powers gave me Verve for the first time I laughed at it, but once I saw what it could do for my friends and family I made the decision to become a Brand Partner of Vemma. This opportunity and product has changed my family and friends’ lives completely for the better.* Thanks for the new car BK!” – Stephen Powers

Ruth & Jeff Elliott the Millionaires Next Door.

Ruth & Jeff Elliott

There was a book written a few years ago entitled, The Millionaire Next Door. The premise was actually quite unique: follow a substantial number of millionaires around the country, and see how they spend their money. Interestingly enough, there was little written about chauffeured limousines, or descriptions of lunches where Don Perignon and Beluga caviar covered the table. Rather, the book told a story of how your very own neighbor — you know, the one with the used car, who shops at Target for all their clothes — spends their time. The unassuming individuals. The inconspicuous. The almost ordinary people, if it weren’t for the fact that they have more zeros at the end of their bank statements than 99% of the rest of the country. But who are these millionaires, and where do they live; and how in the world does one get an audience to ask them a few questions?

Luckily, we got just that opportunity.

Ruth and Jeff Elliott are perhaps some of the most down-to-earth, pleasant people you will ever meet in this life. They have a habit of smiling and engaging in interesting conversation — the kind that makes you wonder if you’ve actually heard them right. For instance, when we showed up on their doorstep initially, and mentioned how they would be on camera, Jeff looked at Ruth and said, “Well, if you need some new outfits, we better head to Target.”

Like we said, the Millionaire Next Door.

And make no mistake about it. The Elliotts are not millionaires by chance definition — i.e., people who can show a seven-figure statement by amassing every asset they have ever owned in their entire lives (don’t we all have something worth at least $100,000 in our basements when watching the Antiques Roadshow?). No, these are people who have made money, and then saved, and made money again, and saved, so much so that you begin to wonder if they have an aversion to spending it. However, when we did meet up with them, we had the opportunity to do so in their first-ever vacation home, paid for in cash, built near a few modest amenities they like to enjoy. During a tour of the condo’s interior (no more than 2,000 square feet, perhaps), they are quick to mention how they were fortunate enough to buy it at the “bottom of the market,” paying only a fraction of what it would have originally cost.

But before we go on, one thing must be made clear — Ruth and Jeff are by no means “cheap,” or whatever synonym you might use to describe what we have just illustrated. They are, in fact, some of the most generous people you will ever find — a couple who’s spent vast amounts of wealth building communities in third-world countries, and helping individuals to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars without the realistic expectation of ever getting paid back. They are, quite literally, a paradox of sorts, hard to fit in any kind of box one might use to write a script for a movie.

But did we mention that a movie is being made of their very lives at this moment?

Again, another curve ball, but there is some method to the madness — if being kind and decent with your resources can be called so. In fact, the story which we will all soon be watching at our local cinemas began when their 13-year-old son, Eric, suffered an exceptionally rare brain tumor. The moment of identification seemed to happen in an instant, even thought the tumor itself had grown gradually over time. But there Ruth and Jeff were, in the middle of winter, far from any real hospitals on an open road when suddenly their son grabbed his head, wailing in unbearable pain. Unsure of what was happening to their “perfectly normal” son, they find themselves in a race against the clock, doing all they can to get him the specialized medical attention he needs — all with the feeling of death looming over them every step of the way.

And if this isn’t enough, less than a month later, Ruth and Jeff find themselves rushing once more to the emergency room as they learn how their daughter has somehow contracted spinal meningitis — an infection known if for nothing more than its devastatingly high mortality rate. It is times like these when you realize some people are tested in life, perhaps more than all the rest of us, as they feel the reality of what it means to lose nearly everything. First their son, and then their daughter, and as time goes by, nearly every cent in their bank account as they try to keep their children alive. It is a type of moment rarely seen in everyday life, which, perhaps, is why it’s so fitting for the story to be told on film. But the reality of it is, Jeff and Ruth are real people, who have seen real challenges. And you don’t come back from things like that without being changed a bit.

In describing all of this to us, it is understandable when we see the tears begin to flow: we have opened a wound accentuated by the sheer volume of blessings they have received since. Eric, their son, went on to perform a miracle — earning a scholarship and a starting position on his college basketball team. Their daughter Jennifer beat all the odds as well, and not only made it through her bout of spinal meningitis, but has been fortunate enough to start a family of her own. But as we said before, you don’t go through trials like that without being changed, and we’re happy to say that the Elliotts have been changed very much for the better.

Over an afternoon lunch (for which they paid), Jeff and Ruth begin to describe how terrifying it was to have their life turned upside down, and the aftermath of what an experience like that does to one’s psyche. Having nearly lost their two children, and actually losing all their income, they seem to have padded their lives now for the unexpected; amassing enough income to weather any kind of storm. But on a fireman’s salary (Jeff’s former career), one might ask just how they went about doing that, which is when they’re quick to tell you about network marketing.

“Jeff originally told me about something a friend introduced him to called network marketing,” Ruth begins to explain, “which I was a little offended by initially, because I understood that to mean ‘you need to go get a job.’ But as he explained it, network marketing seemed to be something I could do while watching the kids — a way to make a few extra dollars that could help our situation.”
Call it desperation, the Law of Attraction, or simply a blessing from on high, but Ruth went to task at building a business, finding the process rewarding for the fact that she was being paid to help people. “You make money in this business by helping others,” she explains, “and we’d been the recipients of a lot of help with our children. It seemed only fitting to spend the future we’d been given doing the same for others as well.”

Jeff also became part of the business, but admittedly has taken on more of a movie producer role as of late. However, each one is quick to tell you just how much Vemma has changed their lives, if for no other reason than they can look forward to a future with more security than they ever had before. The tragedies they have already experienced are more than enough for any family, but Ruth and Jeff seem determined to be prepared for whatever may come.

Of course, if there is a lesson to be learned, it may very well be that none of us really knows what the future holds, or how easily it can seem to untangle and fall apart. But how often do we fret because we are already stretched too thin? How often do we wince when our bank statement comes in the mail atop a pile of bills waiting to be paid? How often do we feel the effects of stress and worry, and think, “Next week, I’ll get around to exercising.” You see, it isn’t that the Elliotts are preparing for an onslaught of catastrophes — even they will be the first in line to tell you of the statistical improbability of what they’ve experienced. But by preparing for the worst, they seem to live for the best, which is why there is a feeling of confidence and gratitude in their countenances. They seem to know that, as a family, they can face whatever life may throw at them, and emerge stronger for having done so. But in the meantime, they will appreciate what they have together, never forgetting those who may be struggling in their own moments of personal affliction. Yes, they could have splurged and gone to Gucci for their interview wardrobe, but that wouldn’t be Ruth and Jeff’s way — not these two millionaires next door.

Michelle Barnes

Michelle Barnes

The first noticeable trait you observe when you meet Michelle Barnes is her electric energy. It was a brisk Colorado day when we were welcomed into Michelle Barnes’ home, and the moment we met her, the room felt warmer. She greeted us with enthusiasm, and as we introduced ourselves, it was clear we were dealing with someone who has a wonderful ability to express her genuine love for others.

As an extremely successful Vemma Brand Partner, what makes Michelle Barnes so different? To answer this question, one has to understand her journey and path to accomplishment. Michelle was raised by a single mother who had her at a very young age. They didn’t have much, but they made the most of what they had, and they had a lot of the most important ingredient in life: Love.

As a young child, Michelle came home from visiting her friend, and she asked her mom why they didn’t have furniture like the neighbors did. Her mother briefly paused, thinking of how to respond to her sweet little girl, and then she smiled and said, “If we had all that furniture, where would we dance?” Growing up, Michelle had a loving and happy childhood and her mother was a huge influence in her life. In their home, they might not have had material wealth, but they had a stereo and each other, and they loved to dance their hearts out.

As she grew older and decided to have children, Michelle was determined to provide a stable and nurturing environment for her kids. After attaining a degree, she soon realized that the entry level jobs she was applying for were not going to give her the money and time she wanted to live the life she had dreamed of for herself and her kids.

One day while looking in the newspaper, she saw an advertisement for a job opportunity. When she arrived, she found a large white eraser board and a line of products. She immediately thought this wasn’t for her. As she looked for the nearest exit, someone stopped her and asked, “How do you know this isn’t for you if you haven’t tried it?” She thought about it for a minute and decided that she should at least listen to the presentation and give it a try. Considering her choice, Michelle is glad she had patience that day. In her first year with the opportunity, she made over $100,000 and has never looked back.

For Michelle Barnes, the key to happiness is found in helping others. It makes her feel fulfilled, and she spends a lot of her time motivating her team to never give up and continue moving forward. Her favorite quote is, “You can always tell a leader by the size of their obstacles.”

Fast-forward to the brisk Colorado morning we meet Michelle, and she is making more money now than she ever thought possible. She has two beautiful kids and is also able to take care of her mom and family. She doesn’t have to worry about how to feed her children or if they’ll have enough money to get by. But most of all, she has her friends’ and family’s love and the free time to spend dancing with her kids.

Alex Morton

We arrive at Alex Morton’s apartment in Tempe, Arizona, ready to learn more about the boy wonder who will be making over a quarter of a million dollars this year with Vemma.* It’s eleven o’clock in the morning, and while the rest of the world is already a few hours into the day, Alex is still in bed, sleeping with the covers over his head.

But before you jump to conclusions, as we nearly did, you need to visualize what we heard first — it was a podcast of sorts, given by an impassioned individual over a speaker somewhere inside his bedroom. It was difficult to make out who the presenter was exactly, but adjectives like “empowered,” “successful” and “belief” were just a few of the hundred or so words we listened to while he began to stir in his sleep. According to his roommates (who had been up for only an hour or so themselves), this is Alex’s regiment every morning; listening to speeches of successful career makers before he even becomes conscious that the sun has risen over the horizon.

Of course, one might wonder just how effective listening to something of that sort is while deep in the realms of REM sleep, but when you meet Alex after he wakes up, it’s evident that it’s had an effect. An immediate effect, in fact. Much like the podcast he had just been listening to, it only takes a minute or two until Alex himself is waxing lyrical with thoughts of the future, hope, and how he will achieve his unbelievably epic list of impressive goals. He sips on a Verve while throwing you an amiable smile, just before delving again into the latest philosophy of what it takes to achieve what you want out of life. And as you listen, you begin to wonder if this is how he’s always been, or if, by some impossible mechanism, he’s changed himself to become this way over time.

So we ask about his upbringing, testing the waters to see what’s in his DNA. And only a few moments later, we come to find that success is woven in like a tapestry, with his mother having graduated from Pepperdine University and his father, an impressively successful businessman. But just when you think these two individuals have simply imbued their son with the genetics of success, you quickly find that their prowess has often been an uncomfortable topic for Alex in his past.

You see, even though Alex drives a brand-new BMW, lives in a lavish high-rise apartment building, and walks around in strictly designer shoes, he was not always this way.* In fact, by his own estimation, he speaks of a time when he felt he was little more than a failure; getting kicked out of the dorms at Arizona State University while landing himself on academic probation. Take into context that while he is relating this to us, the former success of his mother and father easily come into sharp focus. It’s not difficult to see how a meandering youth of this sort could undoubtedly come to find his parents’ success more than threatening.

But as the story goes on, he begins to describe parents who are nothing but kind and patient. They help him get back on his feet and graduate from ASU within four years. But even though he’s grateful for the help, he still finds the college mold unfitting, like a suit that not only needs to be tailored, but one which needs to change color as well. And so he asks his parents for a little more help in the form of money so he can give a try at real estate school. But after taking the test, “I think about ten times before I passed,” he is still left without any passion, wondering just how his parents had accomplished so much in the legacy of their lives.

But then, as we listen to his story, watching him take another sip of Verve, the narrative begins to shift. He begins to describe a time when a good friend introduced him to a company called Vemma, which he finds a little hard to initially understand. The friend speaks of opportunity outside the traditional mold, wherein you “simply tell your friends about it, and you have a chance to make some money.” A bit apprehensive about the “opportunity” being too good, he asks for proof, and surprisingly finds plenty. He tries a few products, learning quickly how good they taste. He asks about compensation, and then he asks how to get started, which is the moment his life takes a sharp turn for the better.

“I was scared of my parents’ success,” he describes. “They had done so much, and I felt like I was just trying to pick myself up over and over again. But then I found something I could really be passionate about — a business idea that actually made me excited.”

At first, he begins to relate how freeing it was to have an actual income — to be able to buy the things he always wanted without having to check price tags first.* But over time, an even larger change begins to occur, as he describes it, when he realizes that Vemma is much more than an “opportunity,” but rather, a chance to help change people’s lives.

“This business is not about selling energy drinks — this business is making somebody else’s goals in life become a reality.”

And what of Alex’s goals? Initially, it seemed to be one of matching up to the standard his parents had given him, if only by their profound example. But now that he is finding the same sort of success at the young age of only 23, he has other things in mind, which he is quick to tell you about. He wants to write books, give speeches — in essence, become the kind of person he listens to every morning. He communicates a future ripe with possibility, and how one can overcome their fears with the right tools in place. He talks about breaking molds, about a different way of thinking, and as we glance at our watches, we realize the day is already a few hours into the afternoon, making us wonder what we can accomplish with the remainder of time we have left. But after learning a lesson at the feet of Alex Morton, we know we will accomplish even more than we initially set out to do.

Dennis & Sue Ligon

Dennis Ligon is a man with a southern charm and an easy gentleness about him. Although he has a kid in college, he can still play the role of a peer, running up and down the basketball court with his son and college buddies. He has refused to follow convention and follows his own distinct path. One of the first pieces of knowledge he shares is that if you are afraid to go outside of your own comfort zone, then you’ve already lived your best days.

His wife Sue is one of the kindest, sweetest and most genuine people that you will ever meet. When she was 10, her father passed away and her mother was extremely sick. Growing up with a single parent, Sue had to find a way to meet her own needs and was self sufficient by the age of 14. She still carries this same work ethic today and firmly believes that if you want something, you can achieve it.

So what are the chances of two people being in both the tanning industry and Vemma? Out of thousands of Vemma Brand Partners, what are the chances of these two kindred spirits meeting, falling in love and getting married? Spending just minutes with the pair, it quickly becomes obvious that this is a meant-to-be situation and would make even the most jaded observer believe in true love.

For Dennis and Sue Ligon, the key to success is consistency. The small day-to-day choices they make add up over time to make all the difference. It’s not easy to set good habits and have the strength to follow them, but those that do find success. Recently, Dennis decided to invest in a commercial building for Vemma in order to bring Verve Central to the east coast. In doing so, he has created a haven in Virginia for people to meet and bring prospects to come and talk about how Vemma can change their lives.

To their credit, Dennis and Sue have not let the money and success spoil them. They are happy to be able to give back. By building a Verve Central in Virginia Beach, they have given their team a huge resource to help with their own personal businesses, and they’ve also been able to give to their church the equivalent of what Sue used to live on for a year. They feel very blessed to be able to help others, and what you’ll find in Virginia and across the country is that the opposite is also very true: There are countless people who feel blessed by the kindness and generosity of this dynamic couple.

Alon Seltzer Joins the Platinum Club

“Thanks to the Brogans, Wilborns, my Vemma team, and most importantly thanks to our captain BK Boreyko for making all of this possible. This car is only an accomplishment and a stepping-stone to my ultimate goals. When my whole team has a fleet of cars and they are able to pass their knowledge along to more people I will finally be able to call this success. I have become so much more these past few months because I have been able to motivate others to duplicate what works. It’s amazing to see what a small group of like-minded young people can do. The craziest part is, it hasn’t even begun! L’chaim to all the haters, I’ll see you from the top.”

Expendable No More: Vemma Ambassador Gary Bailey

Gary Bailey

Eight years ago, Vemma Ambassador Gary Bailey was on a traditional career path working as an engineer in the UK. He put in 60-70 hour workweeks and did a lot of traveling, working for months at a time away from home. “I had a good job with a big company. I was really good at engineering, and I enjoyed it. But one day my paradigm changed. I got home from a long business trip and came in to work. My boss told me, ‘There are six chairs and, guess what? You are number seven.’ There I was, with jetlag and no job and a family to provide for. I made a decision that day that I was not going back into that situation again. I’d find something where I was going to be in control.” Gary started a career in network marketing that eventually led him to Scottsdale, Arizona, where he first heard about Vemma. Today Gary is a successful Brand Partner with a comfortable full-time income with Vemma.*

Finding a mentor

“When I lost my job, the first thing I had to do was find a good mentor. Then I got as close to him as possible, eventually moving to the US where it was easier to establish a network marketing business.” Gary spent every dime moving his family to Texas, selling most of what they had and starting over. Gary found an amazing mentor in Vemma Royal Ambassador Anthony Powell, whom he worked with for several years in another company before they both transferred over to Vemma in January. “When I started looking into Vemma, I wasn’t looking for another gamble,” says Gary. “I was looking for a strong company with a heart. I was looking for a way to build a financial wall around my family. I have two sons, the oldest of whom is autistic. Thanks to this company, they’re never going to have to go through what I did.* Vemma was a great decision; within just a few months of joining Vemma, my income from my old company was not only replaced, but doubled.”*

The power of a good leader

Through network marketing, Gary learned how to change his life and support his family by helping other people achieve their dreams. He learned from his mentor and then passed along what he learned to others. “In the corporate world, if you show somebody how to do what you’re doing, they take your job. That’s what happened to me. I never skipped out or took long lunches — I worked long hours and did great work. But once people learn how to do what you do, you’re expendable. In this industry, when you show somebody what you’re doing, you both have the opportunity to get paid. You can even show them how to do it better than you, and you’ll both benefit. I love that in Vemma, there’s such a family atmosphere and everybody wants to help you move forward — it’s so unusual.”

Building an empire … online

Gary enjoys the excitement in Vemma and working with new people every day. He likes giving presentations and is quite adept at it. “In the beginning, it was a struggle getting enough people to meetings to justify the time spent driving all over,” Gary says. Soon, Gary’s business spread out and it became impossible to personally attend all the meetings. “Thanks to technology, I can now deliver 20-30 presentations a day. When you start to see that kind of volume, you really see success. I tell people that if they can get online, they can build a business as well as I can. I’m finally building a team back in the UK, which is exciting to me since I’m from Gloucester originally.” You won’t hear this Scottsdale resident wishing for the cool, cloudy climate of England, however. “I’ve got 30 years of thawing out to do!” Gary says. “I love Arizona’s heat. Even on days that it’s over 110°F, I’ll be out riding my motorcycle.”

Motivation from the past

Gary tells new Brand Partners that there will be good days in this business and then there will be days when things just don’t go as planned. “The best advice I ever got was don’t quit. Don’t settle for less just because something unexpected messed up your plan for a day.” He says it helps to reflect on where you came from and what you’ve achieved so far. “When I came into this industry, I was on my knees. I’d spent 15 years building a career as an engineer and then lost my job. I was literally hauling my kids to the grocery store in a red wagon to buy food with food stamps, because we had no car. So when people come to me and they’re broke, I understand. I can help them, because I’ve been there. And if I ever have a day when things aren’t going according to plan, I just remember that little red wagon, and I get back to work.”

Gary Bailey’s Tips for Success

• Find a mentor and get as close to him or her as possible.
• Take notes at trainings and events. Write everything down and don’t miss a word.
• Go over your notes and put key items into your business.
• Talk to seven new people a day about Vemma.
• The closer you work within your plan, the faster your business is going to go.
• Take your passion to the marketplace.

Building an Empire: Kairrie McClain

kairrie2If you had a peek into Vemma Star Presidential Kairrie McClain’s life before her network marketing career took off, you’d agree that she deserves every creature comfort her life is now steeped in. At 22, Kairrie was $25,000 in debt and barely scraping by on the $900 a month she earned leasing apartments. “Everyone said, declare bankruptcy. That’s your only option.” Instead, she launched a career in network marketing and paid off all her debts within a year.* Today, Kairrie’s one of the newest members of the Vemma Elite, having rapidly zipped through the ranks to Star Presidential since she joined in January.* “I love that with Vemma, the newest person has the same opportunity for wealth that I do. It wasn’t like this with my former company. With Vemma, we’re all helping each other out and changing lives. And as far as the products go… Verve Bold is just amazing!”
Getting a game plan

“During that time when I had so much debt, and no way to pay it off, I remember I had this moment of clarity one night,” Kairrie shares. “I was sitting on the floor of my one-bedroom apartment, I looked around and realized that everything in my apartment was either furniture my parents had given me or stuff from a garage sale. I asked myself, this is what I’ve worked so hard for? I have nothing to show for four years of hard work except all that debt.”” Kairrie made a decision right then to turn her life around. “”I didn’t know how to do it, so I talked to everyone I could who was making more money than I was.” One of these people happened to be Anthony Powell, a friend of her family.” When she told Anthony she was dead serious about joining and wanted to learn from him, he was a little hesitant. “”Anthony knew I initially started in network marketing at 18 and had already quit once, so he was honest with me about how hard I’’d have to work to get what I wanted. “He said, ‘’I'’m not going to chase you down, babysit you, or hound you to do the work.’ I said, ‘I’’m here and I’’ll do whatever it takes. Anthony was the first person who was willing to take a chance on me, and I owe him so much for that.””

Building an empire and shopping like a queen

Fast forward to now, and Kairrie has a wildly successful group all over the country that grows daily. “Being so young, and doing so well in this business, I went crazy at first, shopping like crazy. It was like, oh I love that dress! I have to get one … in every color. Shoes and purses are especially my thing. But luckily I had a mentor who sat me down early on and said, this has got to stop. What’s the difference between making $40,000 a month and $900 a month if you’re short of money at the end of every month?* You’ll end up right where you were before. It was a tough lesson for me to learn, but I really appreciate it now. I learned to be wise about what I spend and only spend what I’ve set aside for the month. I realized that I don’t always need the valet parking. Sometimes I have to wait to buy something I really want because I’m doing a promotion for my team. Yes, you can do amazing things you couldn’t do before, but you’ve got to learn moderation.”

Getting past the age barrier

Kairrie’s learned that you can grow your business quicker if you don’t let age become an issue. “When I started at 22, I used to tell everybody how old I was — you know, ‘I’m 25, and see how well I’ve done, and you can do it too.’ One day Anthony overheard me saying that and he told me, ‘You don’t need to bring up your age. Do you only want 20-somethings to join your team? That’s a really small percentage of the market.’ I realized he was right. I was limiting the growth of my team. In this business, it doesn’t matter how old you are, what matters is how you work. So I made it a goal to make age become a non-issue, and you know what? My business doubled and then tripled.”* Kairrie has massively successful people on her team in all age groups, from late teens up to people in their 80s. This is part of what keeps her motivated — these are people who have had layoffs and job loss, felt the pressure of mortgages, and struggled to keep afloat. The change you can help them make is enormous. “People ask me, how can you stay excited? Switching to a new company is like starting all over again, right? The answer is that I’m so passionate about helping people have the life I have that I can’t stand the thought of sitting down and letting 20 or 30 people stay stuck and miserable in their current situation. I know what that’s like — I remember what it felt like to have a low paying job at 22 and be $25k in debt. And I know how to help them.”

Kairrie’s Tips for Success

• Talk to 10 people a day about the business.
• Do 15-20 presentations every week.
• Whatever you do, do it massively and with intention. When I’d go out at 4 am to post signs advertising my business all over town, I’d do 400 at a time.
• Don’t worry about the people who end up quitting.
• Having a broke mentality leads you to blow everything you have. Be wise with your income, whether it’s $500 a month or $100,000 a month.*
• Spend 20-30 minutes a day on personal development. As your checks grow, you’ve got to grow with them or you won’t maintain them.
• Promotions are a big part of the business. Once you reach $10k/month, it’s time to really start investing in your people.*
• As your business grows, put money back into your business. Massively successful businesses require an investment.
• Trust your team. We trust Anthony and he’s proven himself to us over and over.

Vemma Hits $20 Million in Monthly Sales!

Vemma Nutrition Company announced that sales reached $20 million per month in July, a first-ever record for the company. After taking 7 years to reach the $10 million monthly sales mark in July 2012, Vemma has now doubled that to $20 million a month just 12 months later. In addition, Vemma monthly customer and Brand Partner enrollments reached the 30,000 mark for the first time in July. This growth continues to be driven by the $100 million Verve healthy energy drink brand, including the release of Verve Bold this past January, which sparked record-breaking sales and became the most successful product launch in the company's history, selling over 4 million cans in the first 5 months.

"With this announcement, excitement is high and our team is setting goals that would have seemed impossible just 12 months ago," commented Vemma Founder and CEO, BK Boreyko. "We expect sales will continue to increase as school gets back into session, and with the new Verve ParTea™, a flavored iced tea energy drink which will be released this fall, followed by Verve MoJoe™, a vanilla latte flavored iced coffee, in January 2014."

Although initially picked up by baby boomers, Verve was fully embraced by millennials two years ago when new product branding, packaging, apps and marketing strategies were created to appeal to a younger demographic. College-age young adults started building businesses with Verve at an unprecedented pace. Vemma responded by creating an award-winning business app that enables distributors to run a business entirely via smartphone. Within a year, Verve became the company's top-selling product and rising sales ignited the biggest growth in Vemma's history. For more information on Vemma's appeal to the millennial generation, click here.

"Hitting $20 million per month in sales is a milestone, but it's just the beginning," commented Vemma Executive Vice President of Marketing and Brand Development, Mark Patterson, who was responsible for the successful Verve rebranding campaign. "As we enter two of the largest beverage categories, the coffee and tea markets, we're really setting the stage for an awesome 2014. And there's the upcoming launch in January of Vemma's new Chris Powell  Bod-e™ Shake in a ready-to-drink (RTD) can. Verve has taught Vemma an important lesson — RTD is critical for massive acceptance and consumption."

Josh Noble

It is often said that “youth is wasted on the young,” especially among those who seem to disagree with how the youth like to spend their time. Descriptions like “lazy,” “rude,” “loud” and “obnoxious” have been used in one form or another to describe just about every rising generation. Think Elvis Presley and his swagger. “Immoral.” Think James Dean and his anti-establishment aura. “Defiant.” And then think about the latest episode of The Jersey Shore. Fill in the blank here yourself, but you get the idea: youth have had a bad rap ever since there were adults old enough to complain about them.

However, in a time when respect and courtesy seem to be in ever-increasing short supply, it begs the question whether or not the youth of today are all they’re portrayed to be. Lazy generalizations and poor media inferences make it simple to think there is no hope for the future. But when you get down to brass tacks, when you look in between the lines at the details, might there be something there to give one hope — at least hope enough to think there could be a few diamonds in the rough?

Case in point: Josh Noble. At first look, you might not think he’s different from any of his 20-something counterparts. He wears jeans and T-shirts more often than not, lives in an apartment void of nearly everything except a 50-inch flat screen TV, and engages in daily social activities, none of which resemble “work” or “school” in the traditional sense. In fact, by all estimations, one might think this type of lifestyle could describe someone camping out in their parents’ basement while figuring out what their life’s plan is going to be (i.e., Xbox.)

But here’s the rub: While Josh may seem unassuming in his rather casual attire, the apartment he inhabits is one of the nicest in Tempe, Arizona (new construction overlooking the Salt River, no less). And the lack of furniture? Almost a necessity in order to host the overwhelming number of college-aged kids who come to hear him speak. And what does he speak about? Well, about how he’s driving a brand-new BMW convertible, and makes enough money to be considered among the top 10% of all American wage earners.

But before you think that’s all to Josh Noble, you’ve got to spend a few minutes with him in person to see what makes him most interesting. Call it old-school manners, but this kid won’t let you sit on his couch until he’s first offered you something to drink right after shaking your hand — all with a smile reminiscent of a young grocery store bagboy from the 1950s. (You know the type — kind, eager, presumably extinct.) In fact, looking at him, you begin to wonder if his parents are somewhere around, perhaps hiding in the next room to make sure he’s playing host correctly.
But this is the genuine appeal of Josh Noble — what you see is what you get. He doesn’t have anything to hide; rather, he’s eager to tell you his life story, and how a relatively average youth grew up to be one of the most successful Americans around.

Raised on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon, Josh grew up in a moderately affluent household where stability and love grew in equal proportion. His mother and father, both as hardworking as they were kind, taught him many of the basic virtues necessary for everyday citizenship in the community. Diligence, honesty, etiquette and reliability are just a few of the lessons that seem to have stuck. In fact, as Josh takes the time to recollect his youth, you begin to wonder why he would ever have left such a utopia.

But, like a lot of youth his age, Josh soon found himself attending college far away from home, giving his best at 18 credit hours per semester. Things were going pretty well, too. He had above-average grades, a productive summer internship, and a map for the future that seemed to have success written all over it. As he explains, “I was doing what I was supposed to in order to build the only kind of future I had ever known.”

However, there was a kink in the system that Josh didn’t quite anticipate. Actually, a kink that millions of Americans didn’t anticipate. With the downturn of the economy, jobs were at an all-time low, companies were downsizing, and Josh’s childhood utopia took a subsequent hit.
“Nobody saw it coming,” he begins to describe, “and I almost didn’t believe it myself when I first found out, but my dad’s company had been doing some restructuring, and in the mix he was let go. It wouldn’t have been that big of a deal at any other time with as much experience as he had, but the economy had changed, and things weren’t like they used to be.”

Now before you begin to worry, Josh’s dad was able to find gainful employment without too much difficulty, but there was left an impression on Josh that would change his life forever. Here, his father had dedicated decades of his life to one organization — a very robust and successful business at that — but one that had ultimately taken the rug out from underneath them, so to speak. The stability they had enjoyed for so many years proved to be much more fragile than any of them had anticipated.
Returning to his college dorm after a visit back home, Josh had a lot of time on his hands to think about his future; about the plans he was following, and how, in a very real way, they might not magically produce the kind of future he had always counted on. Thousands of his contemporaries were graduating from college every year, but without the promise of a job in the current economic upheaval.

“It made me think a lot,” he says. “I always just figured that if you put in the time, you’d get the results, but there were too many people around me — really smart and qualified people — that weren’t so lucky. There was no guarantee in my mind anymore. I had to do something different.”
Which is what made him open the fridge and pull out a can of Verve. Interestingly enough, his roommate had formerly introduced him to Vemma his freshman year of college, offering him an opportunity to begin working it like a business. “I wasn’t interested though,” he recollects. “I signed up to be polite, nothing more, really.”

But as Josh looked down at the can in his hand, he began to think of how he needed to take hold of his own future, and how this might possibly be the way to do it.
“At first I wanted to do it because of the money,” he recalls. “I wanted to have a stable financial future, so I wouldn’t ever have to worry about not getting hired or losing a job. But it didn’t take long before I realized that business doesn’t grow unless you have something more important than money on your mind — you have to want to help people to really succeed.”

And succeed he did. When initially making enough money to cover the Verve in his refrigerator was the goal, he soon began to understand how helping others was the greatest reward. “I finally understood how much fear can run your life,” he says. “I saw it happen to my family, and I saw it all around me as I began to talk to people about Vemma. It’s not that they needed more money — they needed a way out of a situation they felt had no hope.”

Which brings us to an event we had the chance to attend while visiting with Josh. Out of interest, we asked if he could throw together a small gathering of people who might be interested in learning more about the aforementioned opportunity. A few quick phone calls and moments on Skype later, we found his house packed to the walls with at least 50 college-aged kids who were interested in hearing what he had to say. But even more revealing was when a woman of perhaps 60 made her way to Josh’s standing-room-only apartment; an older woman who quickly found herself in desperate need of a seat. No one around seemed to know how “the old lady” had found her way to the event, but Josh — without a moment’s hesitation — took her by the hand the minute he noticed her and gave her one of the only seats available in the room. Everyone who had come to the party had been eager to learn more about an opportunity, but only Josh seemed to realize the real opportunity they all failed to see. “Success only happens when you really help people,” Josh says. “It’s less about building a business, and more about making a difference.”

So, if you’re wondering what today’s youth are all about — sure, there will be those who disappoint, who will never fail to live below even the most rudimentary expectations. But realize there will also be those like Josh Noble: individuals, young as they may be, who go beyond the status quo. Youth who look at life through a different lens because of all the challenges being thrown at them. And while they may not dress like their parents’ or grandparents’ generations, or eat, or speak, or vote in similar ways — they are the future of our ever-changing world, and if any of them are even remotely like Josh Noble, there is hope for them yet, as well as us all.

Coach Erics Clark: Helping People Achieve Their Dreams

  Erics Clark
While talking with Vemma Diamond Brand Partner Erics Clark, one central idea runs through his daily life and actions: he loves to help other people shine. “I love helping other people live their dreams,” he says. “I teach young kids things I didn’t learn until I was training with the NFL. I develop athletes in my sports business and leaders with Vemma.” A former college and pro football player, Erics contracted a nearly fatal case of pneumonia in his early twenties that left him alive, but 40 pounds lighter. After that and a few injuries, he abandoned his football career and started his own athletic training business for young athletes, which now offers the premier youth sports camps in Orange County. “I don’t have an ego. I’m always learning from everyone.” Maybe that’s Erics’ secret: After all he’s achieved, and everywhere he’s been, he still keeps learning.

Although Erics was earning a six-figure income with his sports training business, he saw something about the Vemma opportunity that he couldn’t ignore. “I’ve never wanted to go work for a boss. Vemma gives people the opportunity to do what I do — to own their own business. I love Verve Bold, and as a trainer, I think Bod•ē Burn is one of the best products ever invented. It delivers the protein and the energy you need for a workout.* The thing I like best about Vemma is it gives me the chance to help people achieve their dreams. They see the light at the end of the tunnel, and find a way to make it to that upper echelon they dreamed of when they were kids.”**

Training athletes … and Brand Partners

Erics says that training young athletes is a little like training Brand Partners. “If you’re training a big group of players, your main job is to make sure they stay on point and stay in the game. You have to make decisions on the fly sometimes, and you’ve got to be good at speaking in front of groups and telling your story. Some will quit, and others stick with it and go on to the starting line next season. When they do, it feels so good to know you’ve helped them achieve their dreams.” The same can be said about achieving success in Vemma, consistency and a willingness to learn are fundamental.

Making the business work his way

Although Erics is in the same age range as his YPR team, he’s quick to point out that he runs his business a bit differently. “As a father of two, I can’t go to late-night meetings at the drop of a hat. If I tried to run my business like some of the YPR brand partners do, I’d never see my wife and kids,” he laughs. However, Erics insists that you can learn something from everybody, even if you don’t do things exactly their way. The YPR group is well known for their quick action, so he incorporates this trait into his business. “Within 24 hours of joining, I do a training call with every new Brand Partner. And if a meeting comes up, and I can’t go in person, we do it by Skype. I encourage people to ask me questions. I think a common mistake for new people is that they hesitate to ask questions. I tell my team, you aren’t bothering me. Ask away! Let’s get this thing moving!”

Erics’ Tips for Success
  • Stay plugged in to your leaders, your team’s Facebook page, meetings, etc.
  • Be consistent.
  • Share your story.
  • Stay coachable and keep learning.
  • Make your business a priority.

Hitting it Hard, Keeping it Simple

There’s a frenzy of Vemma activity at Michigan State University, and Luke Hessler is right in the middle of it. Luke is a Vemma Star Executive Brand Partner, and as a full-time college student, he balances his Vemma business with classes in International Business and a full social calendar that includes weekly Verve parties.

Daily meetings put interested college students into instant contact with experienced Brand Partners. “Once you see someone who can do it — someone who’s really taking full advantage of the Vemma opportunity — then you see that you can do it too,” Luke explains. “I was first approached by my neighbor’s older brother, but I said no at first, since he was new to the business at the time and I didn’t see how you could really make money in Vemma. Four months later, when he was at Gold level, he was making $1,000 a month and I joined.* I saw the potential. People who are interested in Vemma need to learn the business from someone who’s already successful.”

Vemma also gives students real world business experience that they can’t get in college classes. Members of #YPR are using social media to advertise and educate others about Vemma — an experience that will come in handy whether they become doctors, lawyers, or full-time entrepreneurs. “We’ve made a Facebook page where we post business tips, Verve party photos, opportunity videos, inspirational quotes and resource links. One of the first things we do is point new Brand Partners to that page to learn more and get a good feel for what Verve and Vemma is all about. It’s been very successful.”

“When I meet other students at parties and such, they see that I’m one of them even though I have a successful business, and that makes them want to hear how I pull in that kind of money. People see that it’s possible, and they decide to join Vemma so they, too, can own their own business. College kids are lucky — since they’re not established into a career, they know a lot of people and have the time to build a business while they’re in school.”

Luke says most college students start to realize how bad the job market is by their junior year or so. “Some don’t see it until their senior year. At that point, they see the logic in doing something on the side to develop a residual income. They know they may be part of that group that can’t find a job after graduation. I think with Vemma, we’re also able to help raise awareness of what the reality is for the job market for young people.”

“I’m excited for the future,” Luke says. “There are great things ahead. Just remember to keep it simple. If you see a good movie, you tell your friends. That’s how Vemma is — there are great products and it’s an amazing opportunity, so tell your friends and you’ll be blown away by how your business will grow. Don’t let the fact that you have an opportunity to get paid for it make it complicated.”

From Couch Coach to Super Mom in Skinny Jeans

Star Ambassador, Marla Brady had tried every fad diet under the sun, from meal replacement shakes to calorie-restricted diets. “I would see a pill advertised on TV and I’d buy it. I’d see some new diet drink in the store and I’d buy it. You have no idea how much time and money I spent, and nothing ever worked,” Marla said. Discouraged, she felt there was nothing that could be done about her weight — that was until she heard Vemma was developing a healthy weight solution called Vemma Bod•ē™. It targets weight management in multiple ways by combining a food cycling eating plan with the use of three complementary products: Bod•ē Burn, a convenient beverage to help curb appetite and ignite the body’s burn potential; Bod•ē Rest, a restorative beverage taken before bed to help prepare the body for rest and support its nightly restorative processes; and Bod•ē Cleanse, to help remove cellular impurities and support liver and digestive function.*
Since Marla was already a Vemma product devotee, she put her skepticism of diet products from the past aside, and decided to give the Vemma Bod•ē 12-Week Transformation Plan a try. “BK is amazing. His motto is quality before profit. BK and Dr. Wang will only develop products that help people to live healthier, more vital lives, so I knew that Vemma Bod•ē wouldn’t be any different,” Marla said. “The Vemma Bod•ē products were easy to use and the meal plan was easy to follow because there was nothing unusual that I did not already have in my fridge or pantry.”

Fast forward 11 weeks and Marla has lost 19 pounds, 24 inches and a total of 4 pant sizes!** But it’s about more than just the weight loss for Marla. She loves Vemma Bod•ē because it doesn’t make her feel like she’s depriving herself — the feeling she experienced on other diets. In fact, Marla claims that many times she has to make herself eat because she’s still full from what she had earlier. “The Vemma Bod•ē 12-Week Transformation Plan is not a diet; it has instilled healthy lifestyle and eating habits in me — a change that surprisingly was really easy to make.”

Marla has also enjoyed the fringe benefits Vemma Bod•ē has given her. “It’s exciting because this plan doesn’t require me to buy special meals. The most expensive part is buying all new clothes. I can’t fit into anything in my closet anymore! It’s the best money I’ll ever spend though,” Marla said with a smile.

Marla not only has a new slimmer and fitter body, but she even has more energy.** She attributes that to the incredible “feel good” vitamins and nutrients in Bod•ē Burn and Bod•ē Cleanse. “With four kids, it’s important to feel good every day and be a good role model. I’m no longer sluggish and I get right out of bed with no snooze button!” When Marla was overweight she felt like a “couch coach,” but now is more proud than ever to be a hands-on mom who instills the importance of healthy habits in her kids, along with her husband Gary, who also lost inches and gained lean body mass using Vemma Bod•ē.

So how did Marla do it? “I’d like to say it was pure willpower, but the ease of the Vemma Bod•ē 12-Week Transformation Plan and products helped, as well as the incredible support system it offers.” While trying Vemma Bod•ē, Marla received daily motivational emails and texts to keep her inspired to stick to the healthy weight management plan. She also was fortunate enough to have a Vemma Bod•ē buddy to help keep her motivated. She was with Ruth Elliott, Vemma Royal Ambassador, at a baseball game recently and someone in their group bought a funnel cake. “Both Ruth and I absolutely love funnel cake. We kept looking at each other as if to say ‘don’t do it’ and so that helped us from giving in to the urge to gobble it up.”

Plus she is finding it easier to refrain from eating high-calorie, empty foods when she gets rewarded with compliments. “My husband and I were at my son’s football game. My son came over to the fence and yelled over at his dad asking him who he was with. Can you believe it, my own son did not even recognize me because I looked so slim?!”

With examples like these, it’s no surprise that Marla is so excited to share her story about Vemma. “I used to let my husband take the lead on the business. I was a bit shy in talking to people. Really, I think I just needed a story to help me. Well now I am a walking billboard!” In Marla’s experience, 90% of the time a group of women start talking and the topic of weight loss comes up. Now she has a personal story to offer when introducing the life-changing products and business opportunity Vemma offers. “I can’t wait to change people’s lives with Vemma Bod•ē and the other no-compromise Vemma products. I am fired up!”

When asked what tips she had to share with the field, Marla offered the following:

1. Get a head start on your New Year’s resolution! Pre-order your Vemma Bod•ē products on Cyber Monday, November 28, 2011, so that you can get your products by the end of December and start the New Year off right! Don’t miss this opportunity!

 2. Do not miss the Vemma train! This is the business opportunity of a lifetime! Gary and I always hear, “I wish I had started with Vemma when you guys did.” Well, with Vemma Bod•ē, this is a new beginning — so seize this moment!

Kailey Warren

Watch now as new Ambassador Kailey Warren sits down with Vemma Founder and CEO BK Boreyko for this Message of the Month.

Vemma Elite Kailey Warren, a 20-year-old Ambassador Brand Partner from Arizona, started out her business from zero and hit Elite within 18 months.* Her story is fast-paced, involving courage in the face of disapproval and a lot of gutsy determination. Listening to Kailey you’ll understand right away why people gravitate to her and how she’s achieved so much success.

In October 2011, Alex Morton walked into the skate shop Kailey worked at and told her about Verve energy drink and the Young People Revolution. “I took a chance, joined Vemma and quit my job. I just followed what successful people were doing. At first, my dad was upset and my mom wasn’t happy, but believe me — they’re totally supportive now! They know that I’ll be able to help them retire early, and they can see what Vemma has done for me, making me a better leader.* Some people will look down at this opportunity, but don’t let that get to you. When my parents were upset, it just made me work harder to prove them wrong. Do that. Prove them wrong.” Less than six months after joining, Kailey reached the rank of Platinum and earned a BMW.* Twelve months later, she joined the Vemma Elite.* “I’m really proud of everyone I’ve brought on board,” she says. “I take zero credit. I give all the credit to my team.”

Everyone has different reasons to wake up and work hard, but once you find your WHY you’re on the verge of greatness! Find out more at http://www.vemmatoday.com/ and invest in yourself
